Reading Challenge 2016

The other week I went book shopping with a friend and we had a discussion about the fact that I have never read or seen any of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit films. Now I know those of you who know me will think “Jesus, she’s worked in a book shop for so long and she still hasn’t read them yet.” Well this is why.

When the first film was released way back when, I went to see it in the cinema. Unfortunately I left before it was even half over and I guess that memory has stuck with me and has left me feeling as though I would still be disappointed watching them. Needless to say I’ve grown up since then and Ive become an out and proud Nerd, and yes I am using a capital N to state that! So yes, on the day of our book shopping adventure I did leave with a copy of The Hobbit looked away safely in my bag. My J. R. R. Tolkien journey is about to begin all over again, and hopefully this time it will be a different outcome.

That brings me on to talk about the Reading Challenge 2016. A friend set up a reading challenge page on Facebook that she introduced me to. What better way to get back in to reading then doing it with a group of people who enjoy reading as much as I do. I have linked the page for those of you interested and wish to join in on the fun.

Here’s My Reading Challenge Choices:

  • a book published this year – Flawed by Cecelia Ahern
  • a book you can finish in a day – Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr Seuss
  • a book you’ve been meaning to read – The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
  • a book recommended by your local librarian/bookseller – The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman
  • a book you should have read in school – Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor
  • a book chosen for you by a spouse, partner, sibling, child or BFF – The Diary of A Submissive by Sophie Morgan
  • a book published before you were born – Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • a book that was banned at some point – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • a book you previously abandoned – The Dolls House by Tania Carver
  • a book you own but have never read – Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson
  • a book that intimidates you – Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler
  • a book you’ve already read at least once – Harry Potter & The philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling

I’m looking forward to reading again. I’ve started so many books in the last year but haven’t managed to finish any of them. So here it goes, one book and one challenge at a time.

  1. These are awesome choices. My favorite: HP, naturally ; D
Oh, can we make a category called: “book from a crazy writer lady?” I can totally provide a title for that one.
