Creating a small business… or two.

I have always had a business orientated brain. From taking Business Studies in school, and Accounting, to working my way up the career ladder at every company I’ve worked at (which hasn’t been much so this also stands to my dedication). I enjoy the hecticness, being busy and having multiple things to do all at the same time.

For those of you who don’t know, I left my job in August 2020. I won’t get into it here, but afterwards I looked into what to do next. I decided that I wanted to go back to school and started on my journey. During this time, and the last year in general, I needed something to do while I had some down time. I needed to keep my brain busy and my hands occupied. What better way to do that you ask?

Well, I started a small business.

(Along with getting my Diploma in Administration and Computerized Accounting)

It is in its first year, and I want to make it successful (it may not become my full time income or a six-figure money maker, but my aim is to enjoy it and continue to create new ideas and have fun along the way). So I opened up an Etsy shop (I’ll leave links at the end of this post for anyone who wishes to support or browse, and if you do happen to like what you see I’ll also leave a discount code below as a thank you). I started out by making bracelets, and that’s all I was going to make, but then I wanted to make earrings, and then Pride month came along, and then I found resin.

So, I created another small business, and opened another Etsy store.

Why another store you ask? Well, I wanted to keep them separate. Pookum’s Products, my first business baby, I wanted to keep as jewelry. Keeping my niches separated and not creating a cluster in my store. The second store I opened I somehow wanted to create a name that to me had my Irish roots incorporated into the name. So I begin to play around with resin, do my research, watch youtube videos, and add one thing after another to my amazon wishlist, then brainstorming a name…. And so Four Leaf Clover Creations was born. Recently. As in just a few weeks ago. Four Leaf Clover Creations will be my store that will be a lot broader in it’s range of creations. From hair accessories, to home decor, keyrings, holiday/gift boxes, and more.

I have so many ideas and plans for things I want to do with both of them. I have an abundance of ideas and creations jotted down in my notebook of projects I want to work on creating. I’m taking it one project at a time, while also trying to learn and figure out Etsy and its algorithms and getting myself noticed there. Eventually I’ll create my own website perhaps, I’m still trying to decide whether it would be a smart move or not, but for now I’ll be over on Etsy selling my handmade creations. It is an extremely exciting process, and the excitement I get when I hear the “cha-ching” from the Etsy app when I make a sale makes me do a little happy dance.

I’m excited to see where this will take me in the next year or two. How many ideas I’ll have made my way through. Or what countries I have yet to conquer for selling to.

Since bringing my own creations to life, and seeing the detail and work that goes into handmade items, it has given me a newfound appreciation for shopping handmade and with small business. So with that, if you want to support a small business (i.e mine) here are the links you’ll need. Care for a discount? Use code GBE10 at checkout for 10% off in either store, or both.
